Keyword creation algorithm help please?

I am writing an algorithm in PHP for a website that I am making, and this algorithm takes a question posted on my site and makes a list of keywords from the question. I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on how to start or link me to a page that could help. i have an idea of how to start, but I don't know how to decide what words are worthy of keywords. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
